History of Beylerbeyi Palace
Beylerbeyi Palace is an important historical structure built during the final years of the Ottoman Empire, boasting the magnificent view of the Bosphorus in Istanbul. The construction process, initiated during the reign of Sultan Abdülmecid in 1860, was completed during the reign of Sultan Abdülaziz. The palace was designed by architects Sarkis Balyan and Agop Balyan, constructed in the Neo-Baroque style. Beylerbeyi Palace served as a summer residence for sultans who wished to experience the beauty of the Bosphorus up close. Additionally, it played a significant role in hosting state guests during diplomatic activities of the late Ottoman Empire.
The dazzling interior decoration of the palace is adorned with the rich Ottoman aesthetic of the period. The palace garden is meticulously designed and beautified with an aesthetic fountain. Additionally, large bamboo trees were planted near the palace to trap moisture coming from the Bosphorus. In addition, the palace is famous for its large seaside terrace and Istanbul bridge view.
The main part of the palace, known as the Selamlık section, is constructed by blending both Renaissance and Baroque styles. Inside the palace, there are 24 rooms and 6 baths. Sultan Abdülhamid II, who was dethroned, spent the remaining 6 years of his life in this palace and passed away here.

Current Entrance Fees for Beylerbeyi Palace
The entrance fee for the Selamlık and Garden sections is 350 TL for foreign tourists. Additionally, if you wish to spend time at the café in the garden section or on the terrace overlooking the Bosphorus, an extra fee of 30 TL will be sufficient. Moreover, students must have their school IDs with them to benefit from the discounted price.
Visiting Hours for Beylerbeyi Palace
The palace is open for visits every day of the week except for Mondays, from 09:00 to 17:30. It’s advisable to visit the palace during the early hours of the day as it tends to get noticeably crowded in the afternoon. The palace is closed on New Year’s Day, the first day of Ramadan, and the first day of Eid al-Adha.
